Summary of current research projects

DBT for binge eating disorder (BED):  In process of researching predictors of maintenance of abstinence at 6 month follow-up after 20 months of DBT therapy for BED. Also preparing grant to compare DBT and CBT in group format for the treatment of BED.

Bulimia Stepped Care Study:  Serving as physician on this multi-site treatment outcome study of outpatient women with bulimia nervosa.  The study compares (1) CBT followed by anti-depressant medication (fluoxetine) if needed to (2) a potentially cost-effective stepped treatment comprising a sequential use of supervised self-help followed by the use of anti-depressant medication if needed. Subjects currently being recruited.

Infant Growth Study:  Member of research team studying a cohort of children, followed since birth, to assess the impact of parental attitudes concerning feeding and weight gain on the development of early manifestations of unhealthy weight control practices and psychopathology (e.g. depression, social phobia).
